CWE-1004 Sensitive Cookie Without 'HttpOnly' Flag
Fix
6.0.35
Upgrade org.apache.tomcat:tomcat to this version or later

Description

The default configuration of Apache Tomcat 6.x does not include the HTTPOnly flag in a Set-Cookie header, which makes it easier for remote attackers to hijack a session via script access to a cookie.

Affected versions

Maven

PackageVulnerableFixed in
org.apache.tomcat:tomcat
>= 6.0.0, < 6.0.35
6.0.35

How to fix

Move to the fixed version or later with your package manager, update the lockfile, and run your tests. If the package only arrives through another dependency, upgrade that dependency first. If none of its releases pulls a fixed version yet, force the version with your package manager's override.

org.apache.tomcat:tomcat Maven → 6.0.35

maven
<dependency><groupId>org.apache.tomcat</groupId><artifactId>tomcat</artifactId><version>6.0.35</version></dependency>
gradle
implementation("org.apache.tomcat:tomcat:6.0.35")

Weakness

CWE-1004: Sensitive Cookie Without 'HttpOnly' Flag

The product uses a cookie to store sensitive information, but the cookie is not marked with the HttpOnly flag.

How to prevent it
  • Implementation: Leverage the HttpOnly flag when setting a sensitive cookie in a response.
