Description
The XMLFileLookupService in NiFi versions 1.3.0 to 1.9.2 allowed trusted users to inadvertently configure a potentially malicious XML file. The XML file has the ability to make external calls to services (via XXE) and reveal information such as the versions of Java, Jersey, and Apache that the NiFI instance uses.
Affected versions
Maven
| Package | Vulnerable | Fixed in |
|---|---|---|
| org.apache.nifi:nifi | >= 1.3.0, < 1.10.0 |
1.10.0 |
| org.apache.nifi:nifi-security | >= 1.3.0, < 1.10.0 |
1.10.0 |
How to fix
Move to the fixed version or later with your package manager, update the lockfile, and run your tests. If the package only arrives through another dependency, upgrade that dependency first. If none of its releases pulls a fixed version yet, force the version with your package manager's override.
org.apache.nifi:nifi Maven → 1.10.0
- maven
<dependency><groupId>org.apache.nifi</groupId><artifactId>nifi</artifactId><version>1.10.0</version></dependency>- gradle
implementation("org.apache.nifi:nifi:1.10.0")
org.apache.nifi:nifi-security Maven → 1.10.0
- maven
<dependency><groupId>org.apache.nifi</groupId><artifactId>nifi-security</artifactId><version>1.10.0</version></dependency>- gradle
