Invite your team
Invite people by their MergeHarbor sign-in email, send the invitation to a different inbox when needed, and follow its delivery.
Owners and administrators invite people from Settings → People → Invite people in the console. Each invitation is for one email address and one role, and stays valid for 7 days.
Sign-in emails are independent of other accounts
The address you invite is the person’s MergeHarbor sign-in email. They accept the invitation by signing in with that address, or by creating an account for it from the invitation link.
It does not need to match the email on their GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Azure DevOps or cloud accounts. Connecting a code host uses the app installation or OAuth, not an email comparison, so a person can sign in as ravi@acme.com while their GitHub account uses a personal address.
The one exception is an opt-in rule for GitHub account linking: if your organization requires linked GitHub accounts to have a verified email in your domains, that rule checks the GitHub account’s emails, never the MergeHarbor sign-in email.
A person can add more verified addresses to their account and sign in with any of them. See Sign-in and your account.
Send the invitation to a different inbox
Sometimes the sign-in address is not an inbox the person reads yet, for example a new company address. In the invite dialog, choose Send the invitation to a different inbox and enter the address that should receive it.
- The email goes to that inbox and tells them their MergeHarbor sign-in email, so they know which address to use.
- Without an account for the sign-in email, they can set a password from the link and join in one step.
- If an account for the sign-in email already exists, they sign in to it to accept.
- If your organization enforces single sign-on, they continue at your identity provider as usual.
- Signing in with a different address (for example a Google account with another email) does not accept the invitation; the page names the sign-in email to use.
To send to a different inbox, invite one person at a time. Resending an invitation sends the new link to the same inbox.
An account created this way can join your organization, but MergeHarbor does not treat its email address as confirmed until the person proves it, for example by signing in with a provider that verifies that address or by resetting the password through a link sent to it. When that happens, any password or other sign-in method set up from the invitation link is removed, so the account always belongs to whoever controls the address.
Follow delivery
The pending invitations list shows each invitation’s delivery status and, when it went to a different inbox, where it was sent. History shows the full timeline: queued, sent, delivered, bounced, accepted or declined. Each invitation also has a one-time link you can copy and share yourself if email delivery fails or isn’t configured.
