Description

Affected versions may accept certificate paths containing distrusted emSign intermediate public keys when the configured trust anchors allow such paths. The private keys corresponding to these intermediates are now well known.

Versions 0.103.16 and 0.104.0-alpha.8 reject paths containing these public keys.

How to fix

Move to the fixed version or later with your package manager, update the lockfile, and run your tests. If the package only arrives through another dependency, upgrade that dependency first. If none of its releases pulls a fixed version yet, force the version with your package manager's override.

Weakness

CWE-299: Improper Check for Certificate Revocation

The product does not check or incorrectly checks the revocation status of a certificate, which may cause it to use a certificate that has been compromised.

How to prevent it
  • Architecture and Design: Ensure that certificates are checked for revoked status.
  • Implementation: If certificate pinning is being used, ensure that all relevant properties of the certificate are fully validated before the certificate is pinned, including the revoked status.
