Upgrade DotNetNuke.Core to this version or later

Description

DNN (aka DotNetNuke) 9.2 through 9.2.2 incorrectly converts encryption key source values, resulting in lower than expected entropy. NOTE: this issue exists because of an incomplete fix for CVE-2018-15812.

How to fix

Move to the fixed version or later with your package manager, update the lockfile, and run your tests. If the package only arrives through another dependency, upgrade that dependency first. If none of its releases pulls a fixed version yet, force the version with your package manager's override.

Weakness

CWE-331: Insufficient Entropy

The product uses an algorithm or scheme that produces insufficient entropy, leaving patterns or clusters of values that are more likely to occur than others.

How to prevent it
  • Implementation: Determine the necessary entropy to adequately provide for randomness and predictability. This can be achieved by increasing the number of bits of objects such as keys and seeds.
