5.0.7- Upgrade django to this version or later
Description
An issue was discovered in Django 5.0 before 5.0.7 and 4.2 before 4.2.14. The django.contrib.auth.backends.ModelBackend.authenticate() method allows remote attackers to enumerate users via a timing attack involving login requests for users with an unusable password.
Affected versions
PyPI
| Package | Vulnerable | Fixed in |
|---|---|---|
| django | >= 5.0, < 5.0.7 |
5.0.7 |
| django | >= 4.2, < 4.2.14 |
4.2.14 |
| django | >= 5.0, < 5.0.7>= 4.2, < 4.2.14 |

How to fix
Move to the fixed version or later with your package manager, update the lockfile, and run your tests. If the package only arrives through another dependency, upgrade that dependency first. If none of its releases pulls a fixed version yet, force the version with your package manager's override.
django PyPI → 5.0.7
- pip
pip install --upgrade "django>=5.0.7"- poetry
poetry add "django>=5.0.7"- uv
uv add "django>=5.0.7"

Weakness
CWE-208: Observable Timing Discrepancy
Two separate operations in a product require different amounts of time to complete, in a way that is observable to an actor and reveals security-relevant information about the state of the product, such as whether a particular operation was successful or not.
