2.5.5- Upgrade ansible to this version or later
Description
Ansible 2.5 prior to 2.5.5, and 2.4 prior to 2.4.5, do not honor the no_log task flag for failed tasks. When the no_log flag has been used to protect sensitive data passed to a task from being logged, and that task does not run successfully, Ansible will expose sensitive data in log files and on the terminal of the user running Ansible.
Affected versions
PyPI
| Package | Vulnerable | Fixed in |
|---|---|---|
| ansible | >= 2.5.0a1, < 2.5.5 |
2.5.5 |
| ansible | >= 2.4.0.0, < 2.4.5.0 |
2.4.5.0 |
| ansible | >= 2.5, < 2.5.5>= 2.4, < 2.4.5.0 |
2.4.5.02.5.5 |
How to fix
Move to the fixed version or later with your package manager, update the lockfile, and run your tests. If the package only arrives through another dependency, upgrade that dependency first. If none of its releases pulls a fixed version yet, force the version with your package manager's override.
ansible PyPI → 2.5.5
- pip
pip install --upgrade "ansible>=2.5.5"- poetry
poetry add "ansible>=2.5.5"- uv
uv add "ansible>=2.5.5"

Weakness
CWE-532: Insertion of Sensitive Information into Log File
The product writes sensitive information to a log file.
How to prevent it
